When I was a little girl, my parents introduced me to the world of travel. They took me to wonderful sites and encouraged me to learn different languages so I could communicate with others in countries where Dutch, my native language, was not spoken. I learned about different cultures, made lifelong friends with youngsters who spoke different languages. All this helped me discover the beauty and glory of nature alongside magnificent historical sites. In short, I fell in love with the world of travel and the opportunity to broaden my horizons. So it’s not surprising that I’ve been involved in the travel industry for many years since leaving university: first as as a guide lecturer in the British Isles and throughout Europe; and then in 1994, when I started my own company where I’ve been able to expand horizons for so many explorers of this marvellous world.
When Monique and I were discussing a future of ‘ Fresco in team’, I suggested to Monique that it would be a good idea for me to copy a fresco. After all, my painting skills, when attempting to copy a painting, are not that great . Monique insisted that I would be able to copy a fresco. Well, I took note and started to work. I chose the scene of Michelangelo’s fresco to be found in the Sistine chapel ,whereby God is giving life to Adam. It took me a few days, with the help of Monique, to produce the fresco as you can see herewith! I am very proud of it. I never thought that I was able to do this, but I did. If I can do this, so can you! I promise you! With the gentle guidance of Monique, fresco copying is an experience of a life time. Why not try and join us in serene surroundings whereby copying a fresco can be more than producing a work of art. I can compare this experience to a week of refuelling the soul. Being away from ‘it all’ and concentrate on creation, on beauty and creating.
I have often been asked when I started painting. I always answer: since I was born.Far in my early childhood, I was drawn to a drawing, a painting. Especially children’s story books with wonderful images that I quickly try to reproduce.Later in my freshman year in high school, a drawing teacher noticed me and made me part of a last year class. That was a real dream.
Very frustrated at not being able to go to « Les beaux arts » – a famous art school – because it was too far, too expensive and above all a lazy people reputation, my parents forbidden it to me.
So my passion drove me to look for other solutions. With great luck, my steps have led me to different kind people to teach me, masters of great generosity and great mastery of their arts and whom I have followed for many years.
